Hydraulic Engineering
Shaping rock to hold and move water.
What it covers
- Foundation excavation for dams and structures
- Channel, canal and spillway excavation
- Diversion and outlet works
Hydraulic projects are about shaping rock precisely so it can hold or move water — a dam foundation, a lined channel, a spillway cut. The finished rock surface and the tolerances matter as much as the volume removed. See rock excavation for hydraulic works for the wider context.
Precision near water and structures
These sites often require controlled blasting close to concrete, foundations and existing structures. Charge per delay is limited, contour techniques protect the final rock face, and vibration is monitored against a safe threshold — the same approach used for blasting near structures.
Foundation and slope integrity
Over-blasting a foundation damages the very rock the structure will sit on. We design the blast to leave a sound, stable foundation and clean design profiles, so no strength is lost to overbreak or cracking behind the line.
How it fits together
Drilling, blasting and earthmoving are planned together to bring the rock to the design profile efficiently and safely. The method draws on the same drill-and-blast fundamentals used across our surface and tunnel work.
